Peak Energy Sacramento will be home to a 183,000-square-foot factory for grid-scale sodium-ion batteries at Metro Air Park, with up to $71 million in investment and 239 new local jobs, according to the company. For local suppliers and contractors, a plant this size is a new customer.
Burlingame-based Peak Energy chose Sacramento for a factory that will build grid-scale sodium-ion battery storage systems, the company announced July 8, 2026. The 183,000-square-foot plant in Metro Air Park, near Sacramento International Airport, is designed to produce up to 4 gigawatt-hours of systems a year.
According to the company, the project represents up to $71 million in capital investment and 239 new local jobs over 18 months, with an average annual wage above $90,000. Production and shipments are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027. Peak received a $10.5 million CalCompetes tax credit from the state in May 2026.
CapRadio reported that Sacramento beat out a site in Texas and called it the largest battery manufacturing jobs announcement in the city’s history.
Why it matters: a new manufacturer of this size creates openings for local suppliers, contractors and service businesses, from construction and logistics to food service.
